Personal Papers and Special Collections of Influential Executives, Volunteers, and Individuals Associated with Hadassah in the Hadassah Archives
Scope and Content Note
This record group consists of nine separate collections documenting people who were influential to Hadassah and their Zionist-related activities. Section 1 contains collections documenting Hadassah members. Section 2 contains collections documenting non-Hadassah members. The scope and content of each collection, as well as biographical information for each person, can be found in the collection-level description for each individual.

The record group was compiled and collected by or donated to Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America. It documents individuals who influenced or were important to Hadassah: some were Hadassah members, some were not. Biographical information for each person documented in this record group can be found in the corresponding collection for each individual.

Abstract
This record group contains personal papers and special collections documenting individuals, both Hadassah members and non-Hadassah members, who were important to Hadassah. Much of the material forming the collections in this record group came from the administrative files of the national office of Hadassah, though some of the material was donated to Hadassah. Key individuals represented within this record group include Hadassah national board members Anna Tulin Elyachar, Bertha S. Schoolman, and Denise Tourover Ezekiel, as well as Jesse Zel Lurie who served as the first professional editor of Hadassah Magazine (originally Hadassah Newsletter) from 1947 to 1980.

Acquisition Information
The Hadassah Archives, of which the Personal Papers and Special Collections of Influential Executives, Volunteers, and Individuals Associated with Hadassah (I-578/RG 7) is part, are on long-term deposit at the American Jewish Historical Society. The Lillian Schwartz Brodkey Papers were donated by Lillian Brodkey in 2012 (accession 2012.019).
Separated Material
Oversized material was separated and stored in an oversized box with other oversized Hadassah Archives material (OS1F Box 1, Folder 1). Folder-level notes connecting the items to their original folders and context were added when items were separated.
Processing Information
In December 1999, Hadassah and the American Jewish Historical Society (AJHS) entered an agreement placing the Hadassah Archives on deposit at AJHS for its safekeeping and maintenance. In November 2000, the Hadassah Archives were moved to AJHS under the management of the Director of the Hadassah Archives, Susan Woodland. In 2014, under a new agreement between Hadassah and AJHS, the Hadassah Archives were placed on long-term deposit at AJHS.
In 2016, the nine collections that comprise RG 7 were processed or reprocessed. Description from a previous finding aid published in 1984 ("The Papers of Denise Tourover Ezekiel, 1936-1981, in the Hadassah Archives") and other unpublished inventories and scope and content notes was reused and/or revised and incorporated into the 2016 finding aid as much as possible. Biographical notes were added and collection-level notes pertaining to scope and content, acquisition, processing, access and use, separations, microfilm, preferred citation, previous finding aids and concordance, and related material were added as well. Many folder titles and dates were revised to be compliant with the archival descriptive standard, Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
The boxes were consolidated to save space and reduce damage to the material (slumping) and most plastic paper clips were removed. Boxes and folders were renumbered to create uniform numbering across the entire record group and a concordance was created linking the previous box and folder numbers to the new numbers. Some boxes were replaced and many of the folders were also replaced. Unprocessed materials were also incorporated into the collections.
A notebook of field reports in the Lillian Schwartz Brodkey Papers was sent for conservation treatment for inactive mold to the Center for Jewish History's Werner J. and Gisella Levi Cahnman Preservation Laboratory. Treatment was completed in August 2016.
