Biographical Note
Hugo Ball , actor, author, and one of the leaders of the Dada Movement, was born in 1886 in Pirmasens, Germany.
He studied sociology and philosophy at the Universities of Munich and Heidelberg before moving to Berlin to study acting. He collaborated with many actors and directors, including Max Reinhardt.
After the beginning of World War I, Hugo Ball moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where he became one of the leaders of the Dada movement.
His involvement with the Dada movement lasted for about two years.
In 1920 Hugo Ball got deeply interested in Catholicism and settled in the canton of Ticino, where he led a very religious and austere life.
He died in 1927
