Scope and Content Note

This is a collection of 41 greeting cards “printed in Germany” probably for an American market, carrying traditional New Year’s wishes in Hebrew and in English. All cards are richly illustrated in bright colors, depicting various scenes of Jewish life, such as families celebrating around festively set tables, Bar Mitzvah blessings, wedding ceremonies and others.

Folded cards are illustrated with flowers, birds or nature scenes and have printed poems or poetic well-wishes in English, Hebrew and Yiddish on the insight.

Three postcards depict Jewish homes; one postcard shows scenes from the Holy Land, another one portraits biblical women, and a third one depicts the traditional instruction of children.

The “Shana Tova Schiffskarte” (“Good Year Ship ticket”) in folder 4 is a colored re-print inviting a recipient to visit the USA, illustrated with ocean liners, a train, the Statue of Liberty, and American industry.
