Marianne Breslauer Family Collection

The Marianne Breslauer Collection is arranged in four series and includes photographs, negatives, printed matter, published articles, research material, manuscripts, journals, books, clippings, brochures, notebooks, writings, speeches, letters, certificates, diplomas and legal writings by Marianne Breslauer and others.

The collection documents Marianne Breslauer’s intellectual life in form of documents; the correspondence with her family members; as well as a small amount of official letters. There is only a small amount of material that can be used to learn about her personal/professional life in form of documents or notebooks. However, there is a wealth of material about influential people like her father, Hans Schaeffer and her father-in-law, Georg Breslauer, which gives a good picture of their lives and work.

The collection is divided into four Series: Marianne Breslauer; Family Breslauer/Schaeffer, General, and Printed Material. Marianne Breslauer’s personal correspondence is arranged chronologically. In the rest of the collection the records are arranged alphabetically by topic within each series.

A larger portion of the collection, correspondence, is in German shorthand by Marianne and her parents. Although most of the personal correspondence is listed under Marianne’s name, correspondence by other family members (Marianne’s children, her parents etc.) can be found as well. Moreover, there is a significant amount of clippings about Eva Schaeffer’s activities in Sweden.
