Scope and Content Note

Humorous Oliven family history written by Fritz Oliven (Rideamus), accompanied by some genealogical notes and various papers pertaining to the family and business of the prominent Hannover banker Ephraim Meyer.

The first folder contains a humorous manuscript by the lawyer Fritz Oliven, better known as the humorist and librettist Rideamus, concerning his immediate family. Further genealogical materials on the Oliven and the related Schottländer and Meyer families follow in the second folder, accompanied by an engagement contract for Jacob Lövenstein and Sara Abraham Cohen (1825). The remaining materials pertain to the family of the Hannover court banker Ephraim Meyer, and include a family tree, residency permit, and several wills. A large amount of materials from Meyer's banking firm Ephraim Meyer & Sohn is also present, including account books, correspondence, and assorted papers. All materials in this collection are photocopies.
