Scope and Content Note

The Ralph Bettelheim Collection includes materials documenting Ralph Bettelheim’s involvement with the Committee for Fair Play in Sports working towards boycotting the Olympic Games in Germany in 1936 and genealogical materials on the Bettelheim family.

Included in the collection are correspondence, brochures, and clippings, copies of vital documents, genealogical charts and trees, and photographs.

There are no personal materials other then correspondence regarding to Ralph Bettelheim’s genealogical research and no materials related to his professional activities.

Biographical Note

Ralph W. Bettelheim was born on December 26, 1907, in Germany.

He immigrated to the United States in the 1930s. Between 1935 and 1936 he was closely associated with the Committee on Fair Play trying to organize a boycott of the 1936 Olympic Games in Germany.

From 1943 to 1945 he was economic advisor to the Commanding General, Office of General Purchasing at Supreme Headquarters. Later Ralph Bettelheim became head of the Asia Desk at the New York State Department of Commerce.

Ralph Bettelheim died in 1993.
