The Kadimah Group of Hadassah was a constituent group of the Central Chapter of Hadassah in the Brooklyn Region. One of their fundraising methods was to perform Gilbert & Sullivan plays in Yiddish. Kadimah produced three consecutive years of H.M.S. Pinafore, performed in Yiddish as “Der Shirtz.” These plays raised over $40,000.1 In 1952, the play being performed was “Die Yom Bonditten,” the Yiddish version of Pirates of Penzance.
