Scope and Content Note
The collection contains by-laws, correspondence, flyers, mailings, mailing lists, membership cards, news clippings and articles, pamphlets, and treasurer reports issued by the National and Vermont chapter of New Jewish Agenda. An extensive statement describes the history and goals of the Vermont chapter. The newsletters include the Vermont Chapter and the national office's newsletters, and newsletters for separate national office's Feminist and Middle East task forces.

Historical Note
The Vermont Chapter of the New Jewish Agenda was founded on August 18, 1986 at the Conference on Judaism in Rural New England. Its aim was to provide a space for progressives in the Jewish community in Vermont. In its first year, they held educational programs on Central America, endorsed the Mobilization for Peace and Justice in Central America and Southern Africa, worked for the passage of the Vermont Equal Rights Amendment, and endorsed a bill to prevent discrimination on the basis of sexual preference. They had two task forces, a Feminist Task Force that focused on supporting the legal and economic rights of gay and lesbian Vermont residents, and the Middle East Task Force, which sponsored demonstrations in support of Israeli peace and in opposition to violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
