The B’nai B’rith Peabody Lodge No. 2765 was founded in 1969 by Alan Greenberg, Abraham Ankeles, Mark Weltz, M. Irving Herbster and Joel Kamans. It was part of the larger B’nai B’rith International, the oldest Jewish service organization in the world, which advocates for the Jewish people and works to combat anti-Semitism. The Peabody Lodge’s original officers included president Joel Kamens, first vice president Gilbert Rosenthal, second vice president Michael Strem, corresponding secretary David Borowsky, financial secretary Harry Rich, recording secretary Leon Sinrich, treasurer David Harris, warden Leo Shoer, and chaplain Hyman Ainbinder.

The Peabody Lodge engaged in a variety of service activities, including raising money for numerous charities, helping to settle immigrant Russian families, holding sporting events for non-English speaking children of Peabody, and participating in Israeli bond drives. For more than 25 years, the lodge also operated the busiest food stand at the Topsfield Fair in Topsfield, Mass., raising money for the B’nai B’rith Youth Service, especially its B’nai B’rith Hillel programs, as well as for various other causes.
