Biographical Note

The American Asher family is descended from Marcus Ascher, a Jewish emigré who left Cammin, Germany (today Kamień Pomorski, Poland) in 1827 and settled in the southeastern United States. The Ashers are notably related to Else Lasker-Schüler's family, and in the early 20th century Asher family members corresponded with Lasker-Schüler.
